by Tim Velgos, Lead Games Tester, The Review Zone.com The Sword of Mana is a unique RPG adventure which will have you taking the journey of a lifetime. As you travel through the towns and villages, you collect information and chat with area locals. Remember, nasty monsters are just around the corner! Prepare for battle mode as you take on special species of monsters. You'll be readily equipped, of course. The basic story of Sword of Mana can be from two different viewpoints. On Hero’s side, you are a boy who had a regular life, until your house is invaded by the very evil Dark Lord. You then run off with a mysterious girl who was taking refuge in your house, and try to escape from the Dark Lord. However, Hero is caught, and is made into a gladiator. Now on Heroine’s part of the story, you are a girl of the Mana clan, and you must leave your village on a long trip. And it seems that you are accompanied by a legendary swordsman that was one of the Gemma Knights, Sir Bogard. But before Sir Bogard arrives, two mysterious strangers arrive at your village and accuse Kaseem (The town's chief) of being the Heretics, and monopolizing the peace and wealth using Mana power for evil. It turns out one of the strangers is Dark Lord, and he decides to arrest every person in the village. Luckily, Sir Bogard rescues you, and you end up in Hero's house. In both stories, you will have creatures called Spirits. Spirits are useful in two ways. One way is to use the Spirits' special effect (Like how Wisp can Heal, and Fire can raise attack power), and the other is to attack. To attack, you hold down the R button longer than its special effect. You can collect multiple spirits of one type, and who knows, if you get them all something extravagant might happen. Unlike other games, when you level up you may choose one type to level up. Each type gives different stat ups, but if you get a certain amounts of each type, then you may get a class change! The types are Warrior, Monk, Magician, Sage, Thief, and Random. I loved this game, as it is great to play! However, the graphics are a little buggy. If you run or walk towards a character, often they will shake and distort. That’s really the only annoying part in this game, otherwise it's an awesome RPG! |
