| Dear Readers, This Lemony Snicket has done it again. He's managed to weave another wicked tale of misery and despair in The Wide Window (Book 3). I must say I enjoyed this book immensely despite the horrible luck cast upon the Baudelaire orphans. You see, Mr. Snicket slips some fairly funny lines in about realtors, of all the terrifying people in the world. Since I lead a most unfortunate life due to these real estate agents, I can appreciate the completely irrational (indeed!) fear of realtors remarks found in this Book the Third. Your parents would probably understand why. You will appreciate the great dilemma the Baudelaires are faced with when they are thrust into the hands of Aunt Josephine, who is probably the most peculiar woman on earth, or at least one who habitats Lake Lachrymose. Of course, Aunt Josephine is not really an aunt of the Baudelaires. Mr. Poe is stretching it when he finds their second cousin's sister-in-law. Leaping leeches, it's a strange tale you will enjoy. And yes, the dastardly evil creep, Count Olaf, rears his ugly head in this book as he poses as Captain Sham. What a sham, indeed! There are scary thoughts in this book. So scary I must warn you that I, as your humble reviewer, would not read it before bedtime. You may fear a realtor hiding in your closet. That, my friends, is my worst nightmare! This makes me shudder just thinking of that evil possiblity. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny truly lead most unfortunate lives. But then again, don't we all? It is good of Mr. Snicket to share these tragic tales with us. I am grabbing Book #4 as I head into my closet under the stairs as I read this. Do not fear, I've checked the closet closely---it's free of realtors and things that go bump in the night. Look for my review of Book #4. I, of course, will not read it before bedtime. By the light of a trusty flashlight, I will report to you, nevertheless. I remain, Tina Velgos |
