| This is a very clever book! At first, you look at the cover and it says Policeman Lou
with the author's name on the cover. But, flip the back cover and it says Policewoman Sue
by the same author! The title of this book is actually Policeman Lou and Policewoman Sue. Young pre-readers can learn about two very kid-friendly police officers. Nicely illustrated (oil paintings) by the author, this book is aimed at the kids in this world who are mesmerized by law enforcement officers, namely police officers. It is also wonderful for all K-2 children to learn about safety in their community. By reading this book to kids, they can come along with Policeman Lou and Policewoman Sue and learn what their typical day is like, starting with coffee and a muffin (hey, what happened to the donuts?)! Working hard to make their community safe can include tasks such as finding a lost dog, writing a parking ticket, helping catch a purse snatcher, and patrolling neighborhoods to make sure everyone is safe. This is a great book for kids who love anyone in uniform or for some children who may be fearful of those who protect us. It shows children that police officers are men and women who are helping make this world a safer place. Whether you live in a small town or a large city, this book is a friendly (yet basic) introduction to what policemen and policewomen do! This book would work well in the classroom, especially for a kindergarten or 1st grade class who may be meeting a police officer as part of their activity day! In other words, if you are a teacher and are planning a career day or you have a police officer on campus who you want to introduce your class to, feature this book and have the policeman or policewoman read this book to your class! Then, ask your class if they have any safety questions they would like to ask the officer. This would also be a great book for police organizations to own when they do step into the community and meet children in the classroom to discuss safety issues. You'll find 10 Safety Tips for Children on the last page of this book starting with never talk to strangers to learning how to dial 911 for emergencies. Highly recommended reading for the primary K-2 classroom by The Review Zone.com. This is another "must have" on every school library's bookshelf! If you don't have this book in your library, please request they purchase it. It helps our kids understand safety and can help them feel safe in their community. |
