| If you're looking for a basic book on Mac OS X 10.1 that cuts to the chase, you'll
like this Visual QuickStart book. If you're looking for computer wit and savvy writing,
look for another title by David Pogue! Aimed at beginners, this 13-chapter book wastes no time in teaching you how to set up Mac OS X, how to become familiar with Finder Basics, File Management, Advanced Finder Techniques, Application Basics, Using Mac OS Applications, Using TextEdit, Printing, Connecting to the Internet, Using Sherlock, Using Mac OS i-Applications, Applescript Basics, and Getting Help. This book, like other Visual QuickStart Guides, is easy to read, has an abundance of screenshots, and provides Mac OS X newbies with a bucket-load of helpful tips. You don't need to get through the entire book in one sitting. Read the chapters you're interested in and get on your computer. It's a nice $20 reference to have if you're ever stuck setting up or using Mac OS X 10.1. If you tackle more than a chapter or two at a time, though, you'll probably need caffeine to see you through it. One tall Starbucks to go! Not the most interesting read, this book is a good resource for beginners. If you're anywhere near the intermediate level though, this book's not for you. |
