| Kaplan Word Power is a great resource! For only $12, students can practice 750
"must-know" words. Well organized into three sections: "Words You Really
Ought to Know", "Harder Words You Really Ought to Know", and "Really
Hard Words You Ought To Know", this book is perfect for students cramming for the
PSAT, SAT, or GRE! Or, you might just want an excuse to impress people with polysyllabic
sparklers! One reason to get this book is that the author took the time to organize these "hot test words" and identify words frequently found on the SAT and GRE with a lighting bolt. If you're in a time crunch (as we all are!), you can start with the lightning bolt words and then go through the additional words, if you have extra time! The book is actually interesting! I mean, the author doesn't overdo it when it comes to big, boring, and hard-to pronounce words. She uses concise definitions and clever sentence examples to help these words stick to your memory! You'll even find the phonetic pronunciation on words that are more challenging to say! The lesson quizzes are excellent. You'll find 55 lessons with quizzes testing your recall on the words. I would recommend using notecards for the words you're unsure of. Take the notecards with you--everywhere you go! This method works for us, and it will work for you! With all the SAT books out there, it's nice to see a concise study guide for the SAT, PSAT and GRE on vocabulary.
