Let's face it. We're all guilty of it. We don't necessarily live an "Ozzie and Harriet" or "Leave it to Beaver" kind of life! Whether you're a soccer mom or a single parent, this book can help you manage time, build communications within your own family unit, and share responsibilities on a week-to-week basis. Even if your kids and significant other think Homer Simpson is all that! There's a time and a place for humor, and still another for tackling important family issues. This book is the vehicle to drive the point home.

My suggestion is for parents to read through this book first, before you even approach your children about it. If it's something that sounds beneficial to you and your family, buying this less than $20 book is an inexpensive investment in raising moral, responsible families.

Often, it's easier to flip open a PDA than it is to sit down with pen and paper, so obviously, I would love to see an electronic version of this book available on the computer or for our PDAs and eBooks. Until then, you'll have to settle for this old-fashioned, yet effective, diary-style approach in opening the lines of communication with your family.

Cheaper than family therapy, this book helps parents set goals, solve problems, and talk about issues that may be uncomfortable around the dinner table.

The authors, two busy moms and friends, claim you only need to spend 15 minutes a week on this book which helps you call family meetings and create mini-agendas.

Nice features of the book include places to record each family member's goals and accomplishments; spaces for free thoughts or notes; and some bonus pages for planning the next family vacation! Not only that, but this book could be a nice historical point of reference for all of you who cherish journaling and scrapbooking.

I'll admit I'm not big on meetings, period, as they remind me of work! However, I do think that this is a very affordable option to family therapy and a good way to boost your organizational skills. These "meetings" may help your kids feel important and will give them a chance to give their opinion on things you may not know they're concerned about. I'm all for it!
