Whether you're a 35mm pro or not, digital photography is a whole new ball game!

If you've bought your first digital camera or you're contemplating buying one, this book will help you solve your digicam dilemmas!

Although digital photography saves the photographer time and helps blend this artform with technology, it can be exciting and frustrating!

If you already own a digital camera, skip Chapter 3 (which helps you find the right camera) but be sure to read the first two chapters, which tell you what digital cameras can and can't do. Although our Toshiba PDR-M4 isn't mentioned in the book, we've been very happy with it.

As a result of owning a digital camera, I'm guilty of taking less 35mm pictures. This is good....and bad. Bad for my photo albums, good for my budget. We've experimented with our mid-end camera, and also we're currently reviewing a lower-end JamCam ($99) camera, which we've found is perfect for the typical 9-year-old photographer! More on that in my tech toys review coming up on The REVIEW ZONE!

Part II explains basic do's and don'ts of digital photography--including how to "perfectly expose" your pictures. Focusing is important, and you'll learn how to compensate for shooting in fluorescent lighting.

Image editing is a vital part of digital photography and Julie Adair King presents an excellent section on simple fixes for problem shots including how to select portions of images and copy and paste them into other images. The ever-popular red-eye problem is discussed, and advanced editing tricks of the trade, including special effects.

There are a few Top Ten lists you'll want to read: the top 10 ways to improve your digital photographs; 10 ideas on how to use digital images; and 10 online resources from technical problems to creative outlets.

You'll learn digital photography terms and a whole bunch more by reading this book! Skip chapters, if you need to, but be sure to play with the CD-ROM, located in the back of the book. Kodak Pictures Now is a simple program which helps you open and print images, while PictureWorks Technology's MediaCenter is a a hybrid Web browser and editing program. These are good starter programs before you get into a more comprehensive, professional piece of software like (Adobe) Photoshop.
