| The title of this book is a little silly. I mean, it looks like a little kid's book.
It's not. It's about life in middle school. You know, that harsh world out there that
starts with the big and scary bus driver, the wedgies from hell, and the spit wads. You're
remembering it now, aren't you? Icky spitty wads of paper hurled at your hair and your
face. Gross doesn't even cover it! I even learned a thing or two about wedgies. Didn't
realize there were different degrees of wedgies. Look out for those super wedgies, any
middle school student will tell you! Author James Proimos is not making this up! This is an excellent fiction book for kids ages 9-12. It's hilarious to read and the illustrations are fairly comic-book funny. If you like the Captain Underpants style of humor, you'll love this book. This book caught my eye when I read the dedication. Actually, the author dedicated the book to two cockroaches. We think they're dead, but their names are Jimmy and Annie. He called them amazing and stupendous. Cockroaches. Really! The book is about a kid named Ricky who is anything but smooth. In fact, the kid worries about normal kid things like bullies, a dead bug in his drink, back hair, and pop quizzes. Not necessarily in that order. I think most kids will relate to this book. I would like to see this book in public and private school libraries. Kids need books with humor and this book approaches bullying and school issues in a very humorous way. I like it like that! |
